Understanding the Changes
After you have your baby, chances are you may look and in some cases, even feel as though you are still carrying
your baby around with you, this is because your body needs time to recover. It is normal for the stomach to retain
its pregnancy shape for several months after you give birth. In the best of situations it usually takes about four
weeks just for the uterus to get back to its normal size. You may even be among the women that tend to retain large
amount of fluids during pregnancy; your body will also need time to get rid of this excess fluid. The stomach works
hard trying to bring your body back to its normal pre-pregnancy look; however it takes time to lose pregnancy
weight for most women so try to be patient.
Exercise is your friend
In addition to a bigger belly, you may also notice your hips and other body parts have also changed. But here is
the good news, you can take control and get your body back to normal with patience and a little exercise. But,

Instead of having a 45 minute workout, try to do three 15 minute workouts over a longer period of time. Once your
body is responding well to the lighter exercise, you will be able to continue on to more advanced routines to lose

Try to make your exercise routines as simple as humanly possible. You want easy exercises that you can do while
your baby is sleeping or you find a few free extra minutes in your day. It is important to find someone to workout
with or have around when you start just in case you have some unforeseen problems.
Calories are important
This is especially true if you have made the decision to breastfeed you new baby. Your body will burn roughly
500 additional calories during breastfeeding. Reducing your calorie intake is not a good option since your child
will need all the extra nutrients you can give through your breastfeeding efforts. Dieting reduces your calorie
intake and may cause your breast milk supply to go decrease. This may cause you to lose weight too quickly and your
milk may become toxic and harmful to your baby. Your health is important for you, your baby, and your family, so
